How To Clean A Vape

It is essential to keep your vape clean to ensure its optimal performance and maintain hygiene standards. Over time, residue and gunk can build up, affecting the flavor of your vape and shortening the lifespan of the device. This guide aims to provide you with detailed instructions on how to thoroughly clean both the vape tank and the device.

Why you should clean a vape tank?

Cleaning your vape tank helps preserve flavour quality by preventing the buildup of old e-liquid residues, removes bacteria, dirt, and debris, prolongs the life of your vape tank and its components and helps prevent malfunctions.

How often should you clean a vape tank?

To ensure your vape tank stays in top condition, the frequency of cleaning largely depends on your vaping habits and personal preferences.

  • Heavy Users: At least once a week for optimal performance and flavour quality.
  • Moderate Users: Every couple of weeks
  • Coil Replacement: Some users prefer to clean their tanks every time they change the coil, which usually happens every 2-4 weeks.

Before You Get Started

Before you get started, there are a few things you'll need:

Essential Tools

  • Cleaning Cloth: For wiping the outside of your vape.
  • Cotton Swabs: For cleaning tight spots.
  • Isopropyl Alcohol: For disinfecting and removing tough residues.
  • Warm Water: For washing off various parts.
  • Paper Towels/Soft Cloths: For drying after cleaning.

Optional Tools

  • Ultrasonic Cleaner: Deep cleans tanks and coils.
  • Cleaning Brushes: Scrubs away dirt in tight spaces.
  • Compressed Air: Blows away dust and loose particles.
  • Microfiber Cloths: Soft and reusable for wiping surfaces.
  • Pipe Cleaners: Bendable for cleaning narrow areas and mouthpieces.

How to Clean a Vape Tank

Disassembling the Tank:

  • Turn off your device so that it doesn't accidentally activate.
  • Carefully detach the tank from the main body of your vape device.
  • Gently disassemble the tank components, including the mouthpiece (drip tip), tank glass, and atomizer (coil). Handle each piece with care.
  • Place each component on a clean surface and keep track of their order and orientation for easier reassembly.

Cleaning the Components:

  • Rinse each component under warm water to remove any e-liquid residue or loose debris. Avoid using hot water as it could damage some parts.
  • Immerse parts with stubborn gunk in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes. Avoid soaking parts with rubber seals or electronic components, as alcohol can damage these materials.
  • Remove any remaining residue gently with a small brush or toothbrush. Be careful not to damage the components.
  • Rinse each part thoroughly under warm water to remove any traces of alcohol or loosened residue.
  • Ensure that all gunk and residue are completely removed. Repeat the cleaning process for any part that still appears dirty.

Drying and Reassembling:

  • Place each part on a clean paper towel and let them air dry completely. Gently pat them with a paper towel to remove excess water, but avoid using any fabric that might leave lint behind.
  • Carefully reassemble the tank in the reverse order of disassembly. Ensure each part is securely fastened, but avoid overtightening as this can damage the threads or seals.
  • Screw or place the tank back onto the main body of your vape device.
  • If you plan to use your device immediately, you can now refill the tank with your chosen e-liquid.

How to Clean a Pod Kit

To clean the exterior of a pod kit, such as the Vuse Pro, you can use a cloth just like a regular vape kit. It is also important to check for any excess e-liquid or dirt and debris that may have accumulated inside the section at the top of the device which holds the pod. It is common for build-up to occur in this part of a pod-based device. If not cleaned regularly, it can lead to disrupted connections between the pin connectors and the pod. This can cause your device to fail to 'hit' properly. Therefore, it is important to clean this area regularly to ensure your device is functioning correctly.

How to Clean a Disposable Vape

Although disposable vapes have a short lifespan, cleaning the inside of the mouthpiece is still recommended to remove any dust or debris that may accumulate. Focus on cleaning the inside of the mouthpiece to ensure that all the dust and debris are removed thoroughly.

How to Clean Vape Coils

Keeping your vape coil clean is important to ensure optimal performance and flavour. Over time, residue build-up can lead to a burnt taste and reduced vapour production. Regular cleaning can extend coil life, improve your vaping experience, and save money by prolonging the need for replacements.

Disposable Coils

Disposable coils should not be cleaned or reused. They are meant for a single use, and it is best to replace disposable coils when they begin to taste burnt or affect flavour quality. Pod-based system such as the Vuse Pro use single-use pods, so when you're done with them be sure to dispose of responsibly.

Rebuildable Coils

A rebuildable atomiser (RBA) is a customisable vape tank that requires users to build their own coils and wick. RBAs offer better flavour and vapour production, longer lifespan, and cost-effectiveness. However, using RBAs requires more knowledge and skill, as users need to understand coil building, wicking, and safety.

1. Remove the Atomiser Deck: For safety, remove the atomiser deck from the mod before you start cleaning.

2. Remove the Old Wicking Material: Carefully remove the old wicking material from the coil.

3. Pulse the Coil: Put the atomiser deck back on the mod and lightly press the fire button to heat the coil and burn off any residue. Be careful not to overheat the coil and damage it.

4. Let the Coil Cool: Wait until the coil cools to room temperature before rinsing.

5. Rinse Under Running Water: Hold the atomiser deck under running warm water to rinse off any loosened debris.

6. Brush the Coil: Use a soft brush, such as a toothbrush, to gently scrub the coil and remove any remaining residue. Do this under running water for better cleaning.

7. Final Rinse and Dry: Give the coil a final rinse under water. Then, thoroughly dry the atomiser deck and coil, either with a clean paper towel or by letting it air dry completely.

8. Reassemble, Re-wick, and Prime: Once the coil and atomiser deck are dry, reassemble the atomiser, install new wicking material, and prime with e-liquid before use.
